The Onassis Legacy
A legendary private paradise in the Ionian Sea, once the sanctuary of Aristotle Onassis, now reimagined as the world's most exclusive luxury destination
The story of Skorpios is inseparable from the legend of Aristotle Onassis, the Greek shipping magnate who transformed a barren island into a paradise.
The Visionary
1906 - 1975
The Beginning
In 1963, Aristotle Onassis purchased Skorpios for a mere 3.5 million drachmas, equivalent to about €13,000 today. The barren island was transformed as Onassis imported over 200 varieties of trees, built roads, and created a paradise that would become the most coveted private retreat in the Mediterranean.
The Golden Era
Skorpios became the stage for legendary gatherings of royalty, politicians, and celebrities. The island witnessed the wedding of Onassis to Jacqueline Kennedy in 1968, cementing its place in history as a symbol of ultimate luxury and exclusivity.
The Legacy Continues
Following Onassis's will, the island remained in the family until 2013, when a 99-year lease was granted to Russian entrepreneur Dmitry Rybolovlev. Today, while preserving the Onassis legacy, Skorpios is being transformed into the world's most exclusive luxury resort.
"It's not being on the island that matters. It's the knowledge that we own it. That is what gives us pleasure."
Designed by world-renowned architects including Snøhetta, Skorpios offers an unparalleled luxury experience limited to just 50 guests at a time, ensuring absolute privacy and exclusivity.
